Ron Shoemaker was raised in Warsaw, a 1966 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, and attended Indiana University, excelling in debate and communication sciences. In his early 20's, Shoemaker entered the orthopedic industry in Warsaw with Depuy. He accepted a position with Zimmer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His career with Zimmer continued, taking him to projects also in Colorado. HowMedica recognized his talents and he then became an orthopedic distributor for them with territories in Ohio and West Virginia.

Shoemaker first became interested in politics when he was a member of the Kosciusko County Young Republicans, also known as TARS. His early Republican experience is highlighted by a trip to Rensselaer, Indiana with future Warsaw attorney, Mike Valentine. While there Shoemaker and Valentine met with Indiana Congressman Charles Halleck and President Dwight Eisenhower.
This event solidified Shoemaker's interest in Republican politics.

While in Ohio, interaction with a then current Fairfield, Ohio County Commissioner made him realize, the man was not serving the public properly. Consequently, Shoemaker made his first bid for public office. His successful campaign defeated this 12-year incumbent.

In his first year, Commissioner Shoemaker was elected Chairman, by his fellow Commissioners.  As Chairman, he led the council from debt to almost a 1 million dollar surplus in the first year.

The River Valley Mall project is an example of Shoemaker's innovative leadership. The developer approached the county commissioners for help. Not seeking a tax abatement, but needing assistance with sewer lines to the project. Under Shoemaker's leadership, the commissioners devised a plan to enable the developer to build the mall. Doing so turned the area into a large retail district providing close to 1500 jobs.

Shoemaker's ailing parents in Warsaw signaled the necessity to return to Indiana in the mid 90's where he has maintained his home. He has a daughter, Kristen, a son, Ronnie, and a granddaughter, Brooklyn.

Wherever he has been called, Shoemaker has been active in Republican politics, working for the party, supporting candidates. He is the elected Warsaw District Two Precinct committeeman and Chairman of the Third District Congressional Finance Committee. When asked about politics Ron Shoemaker says, "Helping people is my greatest joy."
